I would like to introduce you to Quinby Collier. Quinby has been at Heartland as Associate Pastor – Pastoral Care since 2011. Quinby’s ministerial duties include marriage counseling, premarital counseling, teaching, hospital visitations and counseling. In addition to all of that, he is in charge of the Maintenance Team which takes care of the physical aspect of Heartland’s facilities. In his spare time, Quinby enjoys golfing. He and his wife, Sandra, are also avid yard and rummage sale patrons.
Quinby grew up in Hampton, Virginia. He has been married to Sandra, the love of his life, for more than 56 years. Together they have three children who have all been married for more than 30 years. They have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with another due later this year.
Quinby worked in construction and was an electrical technician for NASA before going to Bible school in upstate New York. He served as associate pastor in Orlando, Florida and in Hawaii. He worked for Christian Broadcasting Network in Charlotte, North Carolina and was on staff at Teen Challenge in Omaha, Colfax and Chattanooga.
Quinby’s core values show through his life in his relationship with God and with people. Those values are consistency, integrity, and what Jesus calls the greatest commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart with all of your soul and with all of your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” He feels that God’s love is the key to everything. Quinby says, “To experience His love makes me want to love.”
When Quinby was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1999, he felt like God had dropped a phone booth over him and enveloped him in peace. That peace lasted through seeing the doctor, having surgery and recovery. Because of this, he did not develop fear of cancer and has been able to compassionately minister to people who are going through cancer treatments themselves. Quinby has been cancer-free since the surgery.
Quinby can seldom be found in his office during the week. He is most likely in his workroom repairing something or he is visiting someone in need of ministry. Regardless of how busy Quinby is, he will always greet you with a big smile and genuine happiness. He is a true blessing to Heartland.
