We need to recognize that there simply IS inherent power in the Word of God. You don't have to feel an open heaven, you don't have to feel the anointing, you don't have to feel goosebumps. Just by getting the Word into you, by reading the Word and getting it into your system, there is power in that. God says His Word won't return void and His Word will never pass away, so we need to feed on the Word of God. It's just foundational. God says in Psalm 138:2 that He has magnified His Word above His Name.
Scripture also talks about those who tremble at His Word. In Isaiah 66:2 it says that God favors those who tremble at His Word. It's great to tremble and shake under the power of the Holy Ghost, but also to have such a reverence and respect for the Word of God that we tremble at His Word.
There is no substitute for the Word of God. There are various components that go into the recipe for a successful Christian life. There is worship, prayer, and fellowship, but you can't have a successful Christian life without taking advantage of being in the Word and letting God speak to you through His Word. It's foundational.
