Celebration of Discipline is a curriculum based on the classic book by Richard Foster. The word "discipline" often sounds quite intimidating. In fact, the words, "celebration" and "discipline" seem oxymoronic. But that is because we have not properly understood the disciplines and the freedom and joy that is released in and through them.
Celebration of Discipline offers the means of transformation into Christlikeness and direct participation in the very life of God through the practice of Christian disciplines. While disciplines in themselves are not an end result, they can facilitate an exposure to God that brings transformation, freedom, spiritual maturity, and an increase of God's kingdom in our midst.
Each week we will view video sections which include motivating presentations by Richard Foster, as well as candid conversations, stories, and musical performances by his guests. We will share our lives with one another in small group settings, participate in short Bible studies, and engage in transforming exercises to help us implement the disciplines into our daily lives.
* There will be two resources made available for purchase:
1.) The book which the curriculum is based on, "Celebration of Discipline"
2.) A Participant's Guide
** Both books are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED but they are NOT required for participation in the class. So plan to participate in the course even if you do not want to purchase the resources.
At 6:30 pm on Wednesdays during the school year, we will offer the AWANA program for preschool and elementary-aged children.
The preschool portion of this program is called Cubbies and will give your preschooler a chance to play fun games, memorize Bible verses, make crafts, and develop relationships with other preschoolers! Children must be at least 3 years old by Sept 15th and be potty trained to participate in our Cubbies program.
The elementary children are divided into Sparks (kindergarten – 2nd grade) and Truth & Training – T&T (3rd–5th grade) for the handbook and game time. Children memorize and recite Bible verses, share prayer requests, and play fun games as teams.
All children can be picked up at 8 pm. Please make sure you have your pick-up tag ready to show.
Cost: $25 per child with a $75 family maximum
